The Pork Patty MRE of the late 1980's, early 1990's is considered by many to be the best of all dehydrated field rations. If there is such a thing. Months in the field will have you creating all sorts of tasty combinations. For this particular ration, following these simple steps would make a salty savory meal which would guarantee to have you constipated for 3 days. Fill your canteen cup half way with water. Drop in your Pork Patty and heat to a boil. Turn down your squad stove and simmer until spork tender. Remove from heat. Crush your two crackers and then pour that into the cup. Stir. Add full pack of Cheese Spread, Stir. Tobacco to taste (Like a lot) Enjoy with a powdered Fruit Punch Mix. For desert, Fruit Cake and a Marlboro Red. Follow us for more recipes ;)
When I was younger, my parents would, on rare occasions, make a very simple "Cheese on Toast" for dinner. I have asked friends over the years and no one knew what I was talking about. By my siblings certainly remember. I assumed this was a common meal in lower income households. Thinking back, the timing may have coincided with the "Government Cheese" schedule. 😉 I often wonder if my parents may have felt bad serving such a simple meal. But to us kids, this was a special treat. We'd toast a whole loaf of Wonder Bread, pass around the paprika and devour the entire pot of melted cheesy goodness. Years later, I learned there was a name for this. Welsh Rarebit? Sounds too pretentious to me. I will forever call it "Cheese on Toast" I found a few recipes online and they never captured the taste from when I was a child. Tip: White bread is best.
